Variable Fuel Factor

The volatile and unpredictable pricing of fuel globally has impacted on New Zealand businesses, particularly the transport industry as a whole. When New Zealand Couriers introduced our Variable Fuel Factor (VFF) in August 2008, we made a conscious decision to only partially on charge the additional cost of fuel, as we hoped the increases would be temporary and we were aware it was tough economic times for New Zealand business.

It is clear that price instability and higher fuel costs are now likely to be a constant. New Zealand Couriers are having to address the high proportion of fuel costs we and our couriers absorb on behalf of our customers.

To ensure that charges continue to be fair to both our customers, our couriers and our line-haul contractors, we have been forced to review our method for sharing these costs.

Reflecting the practices of other major courier companies, New Zealand Couriers set the trigger point of the Variable Fuel Factor as of 14 October 2013 to $0.95. The VFF is calculated each month for the coming month to give you advance knowledge of what you can expect.

We will continue to monitor and review our methodology managing the unpredictable costs of fuel, so you can be assured that you continue to receive the same high level of service and commitment that New Zealand Couriers is renowned for.*
